Philippe Halsman
Biography
Philippe Halsman was born in Riga and began to take photographs in Paris in the 1930s. He arrived in the United States in 1940, just after the fall of France, having obtained an emergency visa through the intervention of Albert Einstein. In the course of his prolific career in America, Halsman produced reportage and covers for most major American magazines, including a record 101 covers for Life magazine. In 1945 he was elected the first president of the American Society of Magazine Photographers, where he led the fight for photographers' creative and professional rights.Our Group Inspiration
When we researched Halsman, we saw the jumping photographs and when seeing that we immediately wanted to try it. Most photographers had plain and simple portraits that really didn't tell a story and looking at Halsman photography we came to the conclusion that he had very motivating pictures that inspires us to become more than an average photographer. Seeing all the different techniques he uses to create an awesome photograph is phenomenal.Tuesday, December 3, 2013

I learned that to be a great portrait photographer, I need to be able to keep it simple. I also need to have great lighting that can reflect off of the model so the picture can come out decent or maybe even perfect. One last thing I need to do to be able to have great portraits is breaking the rules of composition, even though they are rules they need to be broken because to become a great portrait photographer you have to have your own rules to follow
